Lymph
is a clear fluid that surrounds every cell in the body. It carries
nutrients and oxygen to the cells while simultaneously removing waste
and toxins. Unlike our blood flow, which is constantly being pumped
through the body, lymph depends on muscle movement (primarily
breathing) in order to move. So,a sluggish body equals sluggish lymph
and results in numerous health problems. Stagnant lymph can cause
fatigue, allergies, muscle cramping, headaches, bloating, acne and
cellulite. Not fun stuff! So how do we keep our lymph moving?
-
Keep your body moving! Exercise is the best way (in my opinion) to
maintain a healthy lymphatic system.
-
Drink plenty of water. Without adequate water, the lymph cannot flow
properly.
-
Eat clean. Keep refined, processed, and artificial food OUT of your
diet! Green vegetables are important for lymph cleansing. Essential
fatty acids (found in fish, raw nuts and seeds, avocados) are great
for the lymph system as well.
-
Practice deep breathing. This will reap numerous health benefits.
Kudos if you practice yoga and/or meditation.
-
Dry skin brushing. This is another post entirely, but basically
consists of a gentle, full body exfoliation that assists lymph
flow.
-
Enjoy a relaxing massage or facial. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
is a very light massage technique designed to move the lymph fluid
that lies just underneath the skin. It can be incorporated into full
body massage and facials- just let your therapist know that this is
something you're interested in. MLD, again, consists of a very light
touch. While most find it very relaxing, it is quite different from
regular massage. Enjoy what feels best to you.
Some
of the benefits of Manual Lymphatic Drainage include:
-
cell regeneration
-
improved hydration
-
increased immunity
-faster
healing
Facial
MLD Benefits:
-
Anti-aging
-
Reduces puffiness/ dark under eye circles

A
healthy lymphatic system really will increase your vitality and
longevity. With so many enjoyable ways to get it flowing, you should
have no excuses! Here's to your happy, healthy body.
